MINOT: Jacqueline M. Labbé, 88, of Center Minot Hill Road, Minot, died peacefully on Tuesday January 17, 2023, on her 88th birthday, with family by her side. She was born on January 17, 1935 in Auburn, the daughter of Felicien and Arlene (Mercier) Nadeau.
Jackie grew up in Lewiston and attended the Ava Maria Convent in Sabattus and graduated from Lewiston High School. She married Normand "Blackie" Labbé on July 21, 1952 in Lewiston. They were married for 65 years until his passing on February 19, 2018. They moved to their farm in Minot where they raised their eight children and took in many kids needing a place to live. Having always wanted a large family and to live in the country, she was happiest at The Farm, and enjoyed simply sitting on the porch swing and watching the traffic go by. She was a proud member of the Minot community. She enjoyed helping Dad at the family store, L & C Cash Market in Lewiston, and then Blackie's Farm Fresh Produce in Auburn. She also worked at Bath Iron Works for about 20 years. After retiring she sold corn and pumpkins on the front lawn at The Farm, where she worked tirelessly and always enjoyed catching up with her customers.
For many years, she attended Sacred Heart Church. Jackie was a hard worker, often times a perfectionist and expected everyone to meet her standards. She was a very friendly person and would talk to everyone and was always there to help family and friends with projects and rides. She always loved animals but especially her dogs.
Throughout her life, she was a thrill seeker and daredevil. She drove in a few stock car Powder Puff races at Oxford Plains Speedway and even won a race. At age 78, she dove off the cliff at the mica mines quarry in Minot.
Jackie and Blackie spent many winters in New Port Ritchey, Florida. She enjoyed her time there, always speaking French with family and friends, going out to dinner and then playing games.
She is survived by her eight children, Claudette and Jim Tainter of Woolwich, Diane and Steve Jordan, Conrad and Patricia Labbé, Normand (Frenchie) Labbé, Jr. and Nikki LaBonne, Jeanne and Michael Carpenter, Sandra and Bruce Haley and Michael and Karen Labbé, and Laurie Labbé, all of Minot. Grandchildren include Mike and Matt Tainter, Eric and Curt Jordan, Jeff and Jake Martin, Nick Labbé, Drew Gallant, Zach LaBonne, Mike Carpenter, Jackie Carpenter Gostkowski, Cat Haley, Conrad and Hannah Labbé, and several great grandchildren, brother in-law Normand (Pete) Garant of Lewiston, many nieces and nephews, and a special family friend, Matt Manson.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband, Normand "Blackie" Labbé, brother, Normand (Noella) Nadeau, and their son, Steven Nadeau.
