AUBURN: Sr. Elizabeth A Platt, 87, of the Companions of Christ died at her home in Auburn on January 17, 2019 surrounded by family and friends. Sr. Elizabeth was born on September 24, 1931 to William and Claire (Little) Platt in Media, PA. She entered religious life as a Sister of St Francis of Philadelphia in 1950. During her early years she served the people of Boston and led a boys choir, the memory of which brought her joy throughout her life. In 1972 she began her service to the people of Maine. With the blessing of Bishops O’Leary and Proulx she formed the Companions of Christ in Portland where she served in several positions to include the Region 3 Catechetical Resource Person. In this position, as in all she did, she found true joy in meeting people and sharing her love of her Church and her God. In 1987 she moved to Auburn and began to share her faith with the people of Sacred Heart Parish as the pastoral assistant where she served until her death. During this time, she influenced many lives through the children’s choir, faith formation education, and ministering to members of the parish, especially the sick and dying. Perhaps she is best known for her ability to “enlist those around her’ in furtherance of these many ministries.
Sr. Elizabeth is survived by Sr. William Clare (OSF), (Mary), her sister-in-law Jeannette Platt and many nieces and nephews including Sr. Irene Platt who served with her in the Companions of Christ from 1981 until the present day. Sr. Elizabeth was preceded in death by sisters Clare Platt and Gert Giorgini and brothers Bill and Larry.
Reception of the body will be held on Tuesday January 22, 2019 at 3pm at Sacred Heart Church in Auburn followed by visiting hours until 9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday January 23, 2019 at 11am also at Sacred Heart Church in Auburn followed by committal prayers in the mausoleum at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Lewiston.
