Poland- Edward C. Sands 89 of Maple Lane, Poland died Monday September 8, 2014 at his home with his loving family at his side. He was born in Lewiston on November 13, 1924 a son of the late James and Dorothy (Hodgkins) Sands. He was educated in Lewiston and graduated from Lewiston High School class of 1943. He then went on to proudly serve his country in the US Army during WWII. After returning from war he attended Auburn Maine School of Commerce where he received his Associates degree. Edward worked for Western Union as a Communication Clerk and then went on to work at Brunswick Naval Air Base as a civilian. He was a very active member of The Court Street Baptist Church for several years. He also was a member of The Mayflower Society, Masonic Lodge, Shriners, American Legion and volunteered as a Big Brother. He was an avid reader and enjoyed music, dancing, painting, playing scrabble and the piano. Edward is survived by a sister Constance Mazzone of Lewiston and several nieces nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 sisters Dorothy Denis and Ruth Wardwell, and a brother Donald Sands. Visitation Fortin Auburn Friday Sept. 12, from 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be celebrated on Saturday Sept. 13, at 11 AM at the funeral home. Committal will follow at Mt. Auburn Cemetery.
