Born September 14, 1921 in Amesbury, Massachusetts, the daughter of Emile Grenier and Claudia (Jutras) Grenier. Edith relocated to Maine with her 11 siblings and mother, as a young girl.
Her family, of her mother and 12 children, including herself, survived 2 devastating house fires and the Great Depression.
She entered the workforce as a top stitcher of shoes, at the local Lewiston Mills. When World War II began, she earned her certification as a Class 1 Welder at Bath Iron Works. This was a phenomenal feat for a woman in that era, especially as she was under 5 feet tall. Edith had no fear of working in high and confined areas on ships and many of the toughest, strongest men were in awe of her. She met her husband Roland, of 65 years, commuting on a bus that they traveled to and from the shipyard daily. When World War II ended, Edith returned to her top stitching position in Lewiston and married Roland on June 30, 1947. Together, they raised 5 children, Stella, Ronald, Raymond, Claire, and David. Her work ethic was superior to none and she gave every bit as much effort to raising her children.
Edith is remembered for her kindness, compassion and unconditional love to ALL she met. She is also remembered for her apple pie, which became breakfast to anyone who stopped by. And there were many!
She was loved fiercely by her family and friends and many past and present community members remember her fondly.
Edith is pre-deceased by her parents and 11 siblings. Her husband Roland, son, Raymond ( who died as an infant), and daughter, Stella.
She is survived by her son, Ronald Malo and his wife Carol, daughter, Claire (Malo) Bureau and her husband Mark, and her son, David Malo and his wife, Cindy. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Michelle Malo, Lee (Caron) Tremblay and husband Larry, Brian Malo, Joshua Malo, and Alicia (Malo) Sawyer and her husband Tyler.
Edith is also survived by 6 great grandchildren, Sarah, Grace, Andrew, Jenna, Leilani, and Oliver and one great great grandchild, Raven.
Edith is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
