Funeral Services will be held at Morgan Funeral Chapel on Saturday, January 27, 2024. Visitation will be from 12pm until the time of the Chapel Service at 1pm. Interment at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery. Pastor Mark Martin to officiate.
Raymond was born in Arkansas and moved to Alabama when he was two years old. He graduated from Etowah High School and joined the Marines. He married the love of his life in May of 1963, together they were blessed with three children, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Raymond worked for the Attalla Fire Department for 37 years retiring as a Major/Commander. He worked at several auto parts stores over the years and as a delivery driver for Vann Express. He also worked as a medic for the ambulance company. He was kind and generous, helping everyone he came in to contact with. His family was the world to him, and he loved them all dearly.
Preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Walter Covington Sr. and O’Bera Mae Reed Covington.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Sue Covington; sons, Brian (Laura) Covington and Kevin Covington; daughter, Susan (Daniel) Fleming; grandchildren, Melissa (Matthew) Shook, Megan Covington, Shelby Covington, Caleb Fleming, Lillian Fleming, Isaac Fleming, and great-grandchild, Arthur Shook, and his brothers-in-law, Jimmy Barron and Eugene Barron.
Pallbearers are his brothers in service from Attalla Fire Department.
The family would like to express a special thanks to Riverview Regional Medical Center CCU Staff.
