After completing 92 years of life, Mattie Kate “Katie” Thompson has taken her greatest journey. She was the loving and supportive wife of Reverend Herbert Thompson (Deceased 1999). She was our special mother, Wayne Thompson (wife-Mary), Phillip Thompson (friend-Cindy), Peggy Wicks (husband- Terry) and Rita Tibbs (husband- Carlon deceased 2021). She was MawMaw to Jonathon Thompson (deceased 2012), Eugene Thomas, Kayla Williams (husband- Nathan), Trenton Wicks (wife, Lindsey), Jacob Wicks, Travis Tibbs (wife, Bethany) Tyler Tibbs (Wife Leah) She had the blessing of precious great grandchildren.
Katie was preceded in death by her parents, Annie Mae and Lowell White; two sisters, Essie and Agnes and brother, Columbus “Bob”.
Katie loved her family, community and friends. She enjoyed working in her yard and seemed to have a “green thumb” when growing flowers. Gathering and preparing food from the garden for her family gave her great joy. She made numerous homemade toys, gave quilt pulls through the house, wheelbarrow and wagon rides through the yard and help create many art projects with her grandchildren. She was a church member of the Shiloh Church of the Nazarene.
We would like to thank you all for your prayers, cards, visits, food and memories concerning mother and us. A special thanks to Shirley Handford and her “host of angels” that assisted with mother’s earlier care. Also, we are grateful to Encompass Health (Hospice Pell City Branch) and others that filled in for her later care. All of you have been and are loving, kind, understanding and supportive to mom “Katie” and us (her children) during this time.
May we never forget your sweet smile, laugh, and hugs. Thank you mom for loving and praying for us! You will greatly be missed, but never forgotten. Mom- you are finally home!
