With heavy hearts and deep sorrow, we announce the passing of a beautiful, loving, and devout Christian matriarch, Gloria Rivera. She departed this world on November 10, 2023, surrounded by the warmth and love of her family, entering into eternal peace at the age of 86.
Born to Andres Torres and Francisca Flores on March 27, 1937, Gloria exemplified a life dedicated to love, faith, and family. Her radiant spirit touched the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know her, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those she encountered.
A devoted wife, Gloria found her lifelong companion in the late Emilio Rivera, with whom she shared a love for over 60 years. Together, they built a foundation of love, trust, and unwavering support, weathering life's challenges hand in hand. Emilio's passing preceded hers, marking the end of a beautiful chapter in their enduring love story.
Gloria was the proud and nurturing mother of four wonderful children: Ramon Andres, Jackie, and the late Emilio Jr. and Francisco. While her heart experienced the immeasurable pain of losing two beloved sons, her resilience and faith sustained her through life's trials. Her legacy lives on through her surviving son, Ramon Andres (Ivonne), and her daughter, Jackie, who continue to carry the torch of love and devotion that she lit for them.
As a grandmother, Gloria embraced her role with boundless joy and enthusiasm. Her love extended to her cherished granddaughters Ivonne (Richard Joiner), Franchesca (Justin Igou), Karla (Andrew Plam), Yoemi, and Christina, and her grandsons Phillip West (Amy) and Kevin West (Cecily). The circle of her love expanded further with the arrival of her great-grandchildren Emilana, Millie, Liam, Easton, Vivian, Victoria, Mabrey, and Eleanor. She was also looking forward to the arrival of her 9th great-grandchild, Everett.
Gloria also felt profound love for all of her nieces and nephews, as well as her great-nieces and great-nephews. She found immeasurable joy in the accomplishments and milestones of each family member and loved nothing more than spending quality time with her family, playing card games, and creating cherished moments filled with love, laughter and joy.
Her Catholic faith was the cornerstone of Gloria's life, and her Christian values were evident in the way she lived each day. Her kindness, compassion, and unwavering love reflected the teachings that guided her throughout her journey. Gloria was also preceded in death by her sisters, Lucy, Nilda, and Norma, and is survived by her sister-in-law, Hulvia.
As we mourn the physical loss of Gloria, let us celebrate the incredible woman she was—a beacon of love, faith, and strength. Her memory will forever be etched in our hearts, and her legacy will continue to inspire and guide us.
The family will honor and celebrate Gloria's life at Noon Mass on Friday, November 17, 2023, at St. James Catholic Church in Gadsden, AL.
Father Jose B. Chako will officiate.
Rest in eternal peace, dear Gloria. You are deeply loved and will always live in our hearts.
