Dale was born in Waukon, Iowa and later moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa where he worked with Welty Way Inc., later Iowa Precision Industries, for 25 years as a mechanical engineer. He traveled the world servicing sheet metal fabricating machinery. While on a work assignment in Ragland, he drove across the Southside bridge and fell in love with the Coosa River and decided that this area would be his new home. He went home to Iowa to submit his early retirement, and then moved to Rainbow City where he started his own business, Fish’s International Machine Service, Inc. and built his permanent home.
Dale married Donna, the love of his life, in 1996. They traveled the world together, built a business, made memories, and made many great friendships along the course of their life together. As avid boaters, Dale is best known on the Coosa River as “The Governor” of the island on which they spent so many weekends. To his colleagues, he was known as the “brain surgeon” of machinery. To his friends he was a jokester, storyteller, mentor, helper, and patriarch of not only his family, but the close-knit neighborhood of which he was so proud.
He is preceded in death by his father, Donald Arthur Fish, mother, Esther Marie Bechtel Carolyn, and son-in-law, Lee Tucker. He is survived by his beloved wife, Donna Fish, cherished daughters Niki (Ken) Tucker and Nica (Todd) Hodge; grandsons Benjamin (Morgan) Rodriguez, Judson (Shelby) Hodge; granddaughters Tiffany (Richard) Garrard, Kara (Joey) Edmondson, Emily (Jackson) Blodgett, Sarah (Dustin) Blodgett, McKenzie Hodge and McKenna Hodge; great grandsons Blaine, Braxton, Austin, Bo and Ace, great granddaughter Ezra, and his brother Bob Fish.
Pallbearers will be Sherrie Barbaree, Wanda Jordan, Kelly D’eath, Laura McGlaughn, Hannah Chapman, and Teresa Knotts, and honorary pallbearer Sadie McCauley.
