Charles “Charlie” Hunsucker Jr., 79, of Steele, passed away Thursday, September 29, 2022. He was born on November 25, 1942, to Ray and Patsy Hunsucker. He married the love of his life, Jean Smith Hunsucker, on August 26, 1962. He was a graduate of Etowah High School class of 1961. He was a long-time member of Steele Baptist Church, where he was inducted as a deacon on October 7, 1984, and served there until transferring his membership to Chandler Mtn. Baptist on March 23, 2003, where he served as a deacon also. He was a charter member of the Bus Committee, Pre-teen Director 1996-1997, Church Treasurer 2000-2002 and Hope Ministry at Steele Baptist. He was a charter member of the St. Clair County Disaster Relief team since 2004 and enjoyed spending time on those trips helping others in times of crisis and the fellowship with other team members. He also enjoyed golfing, deer hunting, and camping with family and friends.
Charlie was a true southern gentleman, kindhearted and compassionate to all. He lost the love of his life in December of 2020; his heart had not been whole until she welcomed him with loving arms in their Heavenly home.
He is survived by his daughters, Renee Hunsucker, Tammy (Ronnie) Gilliland, and Mandy (Grant) Hughes; his grandchildren, Matt Gilliland, Ally Gilliland, and Marley Hughes; his brother, Andy Hunsucker; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews. Special family friend, Amy Crane.
Pallbearers will include Ronnie Gilliland, Grant Hughes, Matt Gilliland, Stan Hunsucker, Joel Stevenson, and Greg Pender.
Honorary pallbearers are the St. Clair County Disaster Relief Team.
Special thanks to Southern Care/New Beacon Hospice, Selena Morton and her caregiving team of ladies, especially Rhonda Teal.
Funeral services will be on Monday October 3, 2022. The family will receive friends from 12 P.M. until 2 P.M. with the service following in the chapel at Morgan Funeral Chapel & Crematory. Brother Scott Stevenson will officiate. Burial at Steele Cemetery with Morgan Funeral Chapel directing.
