Dr. William Talbert Williams

Dr. Talbert Williams, 1927 – 2015. After a long life of caring for others as their medical doctor and friend, and encouraging all to enjoy life and laugh frequently, Dr. Williams died on March 23, 2015, in the care of Wellstar Community Hospice’s Tranquility House at Kennesaw Mountain, a beautiful outgrowth of the hospice program he first proposed at a Cobb County Hospital Authority retreat when he was Chief of Staff at Kennestone Hospital in the early 1980s.

Dr. Williams served as a medical corpsman to the Marines of Parris Island, SC. There he “experienced the joy of helping others in need,” and it became his life’s work. After leaving the Navy and graduating from the University of Georgia, he attended the Medical College of Georgia where he was joke editor of the school paper and president of the Class of 1953.

Dr. Williams did his residency in Richmond, Virginia, where he met and married his first wife, Nancy Ketchum. They had three daughters.

Returning to Georgia in 1957, he began a solo practice in Internal Medicine in Smyrna, later adding two partners, Drs. John Harbour, and Eugene Harley, incorporating as Medical Doctors, Inc. in 1971.

Dr. Williams married his second wife, Bett Robertson, in 1971 and acquired two more daughters.

He retired from full time practice in 1997 at the age of 70

.

In his retirement, he continued his life-long passions of listening to jazz, writing haiku, and sharing his love of the arts and knowledge of wine with family and friends in Vinings, the place the family has always called home.

He is survived by his wife Bett and their daughters Rebecca Wood, Sara Matthews, Carrie Williams, Betsy Hillringhouse, and Foster Soules and grandchildren Anna Belle Wood, Zack Wood, Addie Woods, Clay Bolton, Hudson Soules, Athena Soules, Robbie Rogers, and great-grands Riley and Rista Rogers, Evan Woods and two more on the way.

Memorial service will be held at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church on Friday, April 10th at 11a.m.
