William Jerry Tidwell was born November 23, 1940 in Savannah GA and passed away at his Atlanta home on September 3, 2017. Jerry was the son of the late William Delphin Tidwell and Alma Leigh Tidwell. He grew up in Statesboro GA, where he served as class Vice President at Statesboro High School and a member of the school’s 1958 state championship football team. Jerry was a proud graduate of the University of Georgia, where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Throughout his 50 year-career in the insurance industry, he was a consistently high performer for Prudential Insurance and won numerous company awards. Jerry was a member of Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church, Cherokee Golf Club, Sapphire Valley Golf Club in Cashiers, NC, and a former president of the Lovett Lionbackers. Jerry loved playing golf and hunting, spending time in the mountains, supporting his Georgia Bulldogs and his Macallan 12. For the last 10 years, Jerry has been a dedicated and hands-on grandfather to his two grandchildren – attending all their class and sporting events, playing with them hours on end and taking them to Athens and Cashiers. He loved nothing more than being with them. His many friends will remember Jerry as a kind, humble and generous man, and a gentleman in the truest sense of the word. Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved son, William David Tidwell. He is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Dorothy Caldwell Tidwell, his daughter Frances Tidwell Killebrew and son-in-law J. Christopher Killebrew, his son Robert Ivy Tidwell and daughter-in-law Reade Longino Tidwell, and grandchildren John David Tidwell and Jane Taylor Tidwell. Services will be held at Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church, 2715 Peachtree Road, Atlanta GA 30305 on Friday September 8 at 11am. Those wishing to make donations in remembrance of Jerry may do so to Barnabas International at www.Barnabas.org (designating Dr. Bob and Myra Marsh ministry) or to Orchard (formerly Atlanta Christian Ministry) at www.meetorchard.org.
