William B. Stark, Sr, 89, cherished and beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away after a short illness on August 23, 2012. Bill retired as Executive Vice President of the Citizens & Southern National Bank. Preceded in death by his parents, Josie Boyce Stark and William B. Stark and his brother, Gus Stark and sisters, Eula Stark Bell and Frances Stark Cowart. Bill graduated from Monroe, Georgia High School and attended the University of Georgia prior to his service in World War II. During World War II he served with the 102nd Infantry Division in the European Theater, receiving a battleship Commission and a Bronze Star Medal. After the war he resumed his education at the University. It was during this time that he met his loving wife to be, Betty Williams; a University of Georgia Pandora Beauty who he always said was his greatest achievement in life, resulting in a wonderful very happy marriage to Betty for 60 years. He was a graduate of Stoner School of Banking, Rutgers University, and the Columbia Executive Program in Business Administration, Columbia University. During his 37 year business career with the Bank he became Officer in charge of its Personal Trust Division composed of eight Trust Departments state wide. He served on two different occasions as President of the Southern Trust Conference. His other past services were member of the Board of trustees of the Ray M. and Mary Elizabeth Lee foundation for 43 years; member of the Board of Trustees of Young Harris College; member of the Board of Trustees of the Employee Retirement System of Georgia; member of the DeKalb County Planning Committee; and a United Way Volunteer for many years serving as Chairman of the Foundation and Funds Division. He was a life member of the Atlanta Estate Planning Council; a member of the Georgia Bar; the Atlanta Athletic Club; SAE Fraternity; and the Gridiron Secret Society- University of Georgia Chapter. He was a member of Johns Creek Baptist Church and the Joy Generation Sunday School Class. He is survived by his Loving Wife Betty Williams Stark; son, Bill Jr and daughter-in-law, Sallie of Johns Creek, GA and his daughter, Karen Stark Grogan and son-in-law Scott Clayton of Sautee-Nacoochee, GA. He is also survived by Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, namely: Brittan Mullins and her husband Stephen Mullins of Cookeville, TN; William Grogan and his wife Tyler of Atlanta; Billy Stark of Nashville, TN; Cameron Grogan of Atlanta; Jacob Stark, Jamie Stark and Christian Stark of Johns Creek, GA. Emily and Palmer Clayton, (step grandchildren) of Atlanta. Great Grandchildren include, Channing and Cameron Mullins of Cookeville, TN; and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Eagle Ranch, 5500 Union Church Road, Flowery Branch, GA 30542 or charity of your choice. A graveside service will be held Monday, August 27th at 11 o’clock at Arlington Memorial Park followed by a memorial service at 2 o’clock at Johns Creek Baptist Church. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 at H.M. Patterson & Son, Oglethorpe Hill Chapel, 4550 Peachtree Road, NE, Atlanta, Georgia, 30319.
