Thomas (Tom) Larry Puckett of Alpharetta, GA passed away on January 7, 2015. He was born in Douglasville, GA on February 25, 1927 to parents Isom and Vada Puckett. He lived most of his life in the Brookhaven neighborhood of Atlanta. After graduating from Chamblee High School he joined the United States Marine Corps to serve his nation in World War II. During his service as a combat infantryman in the Pacific Theatre, he participated in battles in Okinawa, Guadalcanal, Guam, and China. Tom was awarded a plaque honoring his service at the World War II Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC. After his service, he returned home and in 1947 he married his high school sweetheart, Virginia Eidson. They raised five children in Brookhaven. Tom was employed by the United States Post Office until his retirement in 1982. Tom was a longtime active member, deacon and Sunday school teacher at Brookhaven Baptist Church. At the time of his passing, he was a faithful member of Roswell First Baptist Church and was a Shriner and Mason. Tom was preceded in death by his beloved wife Virginia and his son William Puckett. He is survived by his loving wife Patricia and his four children; Tommie Jean Nelms of Kennesaw, GA, Donna Bush of Charlotte, NC, Dale Thomas of Alpharetta, GA, and Douglas Puckett of Brookhaven, GA; 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 9 from 6 PM - 8 PM at H.M. Patterson & Son Oglethorpe Hill. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 10 at the funeral home.
