Sarah Margaret Hopkins Smith (102) died April 19, 2017, in Atlanta, Georgia. She was born February 16, 1915, in Atlanta, Georgia, to James Harrison Hopkins and Sarah Florence Taylor Hopkins. A graduate of Atlanta Girls High, Smith attended the University of Georgia. Smith began working for Southern Bell in 1935, retiring in 1980 after a 45-year career which ended as executive secretary to the president. In retirement, Smith enjoyed participation in the Green Thumb Garden Club, Peachtree Presbyterian Women and Martha Wilson Sunday School class, AT&T’s Pioneers and several bridge clubs. She also traveled extensively around the world. Smith was predeceased by her husband Glen McClelland Smith and brother James Harrison Hopkins. She is survived by her niece Harriet Hopkins Brown and her husband Dan of San Antonio, Texas; her nephew James Harrison Hopkins and his wife Ina of Athens, Georgia; her sister-in-law Elizabeth Hallman Hopkins; great nieces Courtney Brown Owens, Kristen Brown Supan, and Ashley Hopkins Baughman; and great grandnieces and grandnephews Grant Owens, Kyle Owens, Blake Owens, Megan Owens, Reid Baughman, Brooks Baughman, Emery Baughman, Cassidy Supan and Grady Supan. Visitation will be held Saturday, April 22, 2017, 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at H.M. Patterson & Son - Oglethorpe Hill, 4550 North Peachtree Road, Atlanta, Georgia. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. at Westview Cemetery, 1680 Westview Drive SW, Atlanta, Georgia, with Reverend Scott Tucker officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that remembrances be made in Mrs. Smith’s name to Peachtree Presbyterian Church, 3434 Roswell Road NW, Atlanta, GA 30305.
