Richard Henry Almand Jr.

He was born on October 27, 1922 in Columbus, Georgia to Richard and Maude Almand before moving to Atlanta three years later. In Atlanta, he graduated from Boy High School and Georgia Tech where he was a member and served as president of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. His education at Georgia Tech was interrupted by World War II during which Mr. Almand served in the Army Air Corp as a navigator on a B-29 based in Guam. After graduating from Georgia Tech, he joined his father at Service Printing Company in 1946 and became owner when his father died in 1959.

He was active in many civic and business affairs over the years. Mr. Almand was a member and past president of the Atlanta Executive Association, The Breakfast Club (Ace), and the Atlanta Kiwanis Club, of which he was a director and trustee of the Foundation. He was an active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder. He served as a board member of Trinity School in its early days.

Mr. Almand was a member of Cherokee Town and Country Club where he was an avid golfer having four holes in one and shot his age at 78. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Many of Mr. and Mrs. Almands happiest moments were spent with their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife of 73 years, Frances, daughter, Sally Almand Northcutt, son, Richard Henry Almand III, four grandchildren, Thomas James Northcutt III, Isoline Northcutt Abels and husband Nelson Abels, Richard Bradley Almand and wife Ariel Almand, Kathryn Frances Almand, two great grandsons Henry Cheyney Abels and Mason Bradley Almand, nephew Brian Henry and wife Laura Henry of Atlanta, niece Linda Beck and husband John Beck of Columbus, Georgia.

A private Memorial service will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church.
