Mer was 68 years old. A life-long resident of the Buckhead/Brookhaven area, she graduated from North Fulton High School, earned an Associate’s degree from Santa Fe Community College, and studied accounting at Oglethorpe University.
She was a beloved bookkeeper at Walter Mitty’s Restaurant and treasurer at NNNW Corp. for 40 years, where she served the staff of the Steamhouse Lounge, The Highland Tap, Vickery’s, and Fontaine’s Oyster House.
Mer was a voracious reader and animal lover, and cared for many cats and dogs throughout her lifetime. She was a great collector of books and loved to spend her free time painting and creating art, with great skill. She loved to sing and knew every word to every Joni Mitchell song. She was a camping enthusiast and loved to travel. She was incredibly resilient and survived a brain tumor in 2016.
Her greatest joy was her niece and nephew, Hannah and Jake Carlan. She traveled to India and Nepal in 2013 to visit Hannah on the trip of a lifetime. She nurtured Jake’s musical talents and spent many of her final afternoons watching Family Feud with him. She traveled with the whole family to spread her mother Addie’s ashes in Hawaii in 2007.
Mer’s friends mailed her over 60 birthday cards on her 60th birthday. She was loved by so many friends, and was herself a very generous friend to all who knew her. She spent over twenty years with her partner Jesse Reep, who passed away only two months ago. She is welcomed by her loving parents, Addie and Henry Sanders, her late husband Mike Dimmett, and her beloved friend Joan Worthington.
She is survived by her sister Susan Carlan (William Carlan) of Monroe, Georgia, her niece Hannah Carlan (Sumeet Nagi) of San Leandro, California, and nephew Jake Carlan (Samantha Carlan) of Lawrenceville, Georgia.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, September 8th at 2PM at H.M. Patterson & Son - Oglethorpe Hill Chapel, 4550 Peachtree Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30319. A reception will follow.
