Mary Agnes Boyle, 60, of Decatur, GA died after a long illness at Benton House in Newnan, GA. Ms. Boyle was born on April 21, 1952, the oldest daughter of carpenter Richard Joseph Boyle and Agnes Elizabeth Boyle of Miami Beach, FL.
After graduating from Our Lady of Lourdes Academy and Jackson Memorial Hospital’s School of Nursing, she moved to Denver, CO, where she met and married an Air Force Academy graduate. Living all over the country as an officer’s wife, Ms. Boyle enjoyed being a homemaker and full-time mother. Later, as a single mother, she earned a Bachelor of Science and Nursing degree through Beth-El College of Nursing in Colorado Springs, CO.
During the span of her 40-year nursing career, Ms. Boyle worked in pediatric intensive care, neonatal intensive care, urgent care and pediatric nephrology. Her career culminated in her appointment as clinical nurse coordinator at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, where she helped build a preeminent Chronic Renal Insufficiency program designed to care for children with renal failure until transplant or dialysis. During her four decades as a nurse, she touched the lives of thousands of children, and earned countless accolades, including a prestigious Daisy award.
Ms. Boyle is survived by her children, Brian W. Newsome of Kennesaw, GA, and Laura A. Newsome of New York, NY, as well as their significant others, Jill Newsome and Benjamin Smith. She is also survived by her six brothers and sisters: Elizabeth Rone, Richard Boyle Jr., Paul Boyle, William Boyle, Catherine Shackleford and Diane Busch.
Beloved by all, Ms. Boyle was known for her kindness, empathy, compassion, humility and her love of children. A devout Catholic, she also enjoyed gardening, flower arranging, interior design, music and traveling to the beach.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 17 at 10:30 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Atlanta, GA, followed by a graveside service at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Tucker GA.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in her name to the organ transplant program at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, choa.org/give, (404) 785-GIVE.

The family will receive friends from 3-5 PM Sunday evening at H.M. Patterson & Son-Oglethorpe Hill Chapel in Atlanta, GA, with a memorial celebration to follow at the Petite Auberge Restaurant in Atlanta, GA from 5:30-8 PM.
