Julie Wright Greer died September 29, 2014 after suffering a stroke on July 11. She was the only child of Julia Barrett Wright and Charles Herman Wright. Born in Greensboro, N.C., August 20, 1933, she is survived by daughters Deborah Merck Sanders and Claire Wright Gibson, son-in-law Thomas H. Sanders and two grandchildren Barrett “Hutch” Sanders and Bret Thomas Sanders. She resided in Atlanta most of her adult life except during the years 1969 to 1975 when she was married to William Greer of Greenville, S. C.
In the late ‘70s she signed on with a local publication, creating a weekly column of local news and gossip for James Hickey’s Buckhead Atlanta newspaper. During that time she became a die-hard Georgia fan and found two other passions--traveling and horse racing. Nothing thrilled her more than a week in Saratoga, N.Y. Ultimately, she became active in the community. She served on the board of the Alliance Children’s Theatre Guild and helped organize many of its Christmas Show Houses. She sold pecans for the Shepard Center and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Good Samaritan Health Center. She also belonged to the Atlanta History Center Members Guild.
A viewing will be held Saturday, October 4 from 5 to 7 at H.M. Patterson, Spring Hill, followed by a Memorial Service on Sunday, October 5, 2 p.m. In lieu or flowers, donations may be made to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. (www.komen.org) The family wishes to express appreciation for all the kindness and support from her many friends during her illness. Online condolences may be made at hmpattersonspringhill.com
