John Fletcher McKoon, age 90, of Atlanta passed away December 16, 2013. A graveside service will be held at Georgia National Cemetery, 1080 Veterans Cemetery Road, Canton Georgia, 30114, Friday, January 3, 2014 at 1:00 PM. John was raised in Luthersville, Georgia, the son of Fletcher May (Willingham) and William Alvin McKoon. He was employed by Southern Railway for several years and retired from Georgia Power after 52 years of service. During WW II he served honorably with the 87th Infantry Division B346 (“Golden Acorn”) in the Ardennes-Alsace, Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns and was awarded the Purple Heart. John was predeceased by half brothers Charlie and Lee McKoon, and brothers Wesley and James Harvey McKoon. He is survived by his wife Bernice, several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
