John Joseph “Jack” Cawley entered into his eternal rest peacefully on May 3, 2017. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 61 years Alice, his brother William V. Cawley (wife Lois), his children Brian (wife Shannon), Neil (wife DeAnna), Gary (wife Kim), and Jennifer Alvillar (husband Alvaro), 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. He is pre-deceased by his son, Patrick, his siblings, Margaret, Catherine, Edward, Mary, and Nora, and his parents: Edward and Bridget Agnes Cawley. Jack was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1929 and graduated from Fenn College earning a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1954. Jack was a family man and placed family first at all times. A defender of social justice and the dignity of every human, Jack served as a lay leader in the Archdiocese of Atlanta. His service reached the broader community as a founding board member of People Making Progress where he faithfully served with his kind heart and business sense as the organizations first chairman where he remained on the board for 26 years. He loved music and sang in the Holy Cross and All Saints choirs and in the Stone Mountain Barbershop Chorus. He enjoyed playing golf with his sons and watched it incessantly at home. We will always remember his humor and the ability to find good in all things. He will be missed by many and loved forever by all. Visitation will be on Thursday, May 11th from 1pm-3pm and 6pm-8pm with a Rosary at 7pm at HM Patterson & Sons Oglethorpe Hill. Funeral Mass will be at All Saints Catholic Church on Friday, May 12th at 1pm. Burial at Arlington Memorial Cemetery following Mass.
