John was born in Meridian, Mississippi on August 8, 1940. He grew up in Mobile, Alabama, where he attended Murphy High School and was a member of Phi Sigma Chi fraternity and the graduating class of 1958. John then attended Auburn University, was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, and graduated with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He married Linda Lemon Griffin on October 15, 1965. John worked largely as a self-employed Manufacturers Representative for most of his career. He was a member of Dunwoody Baptist Church, followed by Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, and was most recently attending Church of the Apostles (Atlanta, GA). John was known for his deep interest in construction, his heart for developing relationships with all people, and his passion for furthering and participating in Christian ministries.
John is preceded in death by his wife, Linda Lemon Griffin.
John is survived by his two sons, John Griffin Jr. and his wife Kirstin of Greenville, South Carolina, and Mark Griffin and his wife Pamela of Jacksonville, Florida, as well as his 6 grandchildren, Zachary, Alise, Wyatt, Davis, Bennett, and Rachel. He is also survived by his sister Betty Dimmick of Mobile, Alabama.
Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 6th at H.M. Patterson & Son - Oglethorpe Hill Chapel with Dan Hayes of Orchard Resources, officiating. Arrangements are by H.M. Patterson & Son.
In remembrance of John's life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to American Kidney Fund, Doctors Without Borders or the charity of your choosing.
