James Stuart Benton, 74, of Peachtree Corners, GA, died January 15, 2015, following a long illness. Jim was born on October 13, 1940, at Emory University Hospital to Edred Childs Benton, Jr. and Margaret Stuart Benton of West Point, GA. Jim grew up in West Point, GA, and attended schools there and at Emory at Oxford. He received his electrical engineering degree from Auburn University in 1963. Jim enjoyed a career with Georgia Power Company retiring in 2003 with 40 years of service. Jim married Mavis Morrison on March 27, 1982. Jim was an active member of Peachtree Christian Church serving as a deacon and co-chair of the Membership Ministry. Jim enjoyed fishing, boating and traveling. Jim will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him. Jim is survived by his wife, Mavis, sister Betty Tinker (William), brother-in-law, Fred Morrison (Linda), nephews and nieces, Edred C. Benton IV (Tracey), Judith Benton Gilbert, Melissa Elizabeth Tinker (Derek), Allyson Margaret Tinker, Stacie Morrison Frost, Brandon Morrison (Susan), Corey Morrison, and many great nieces and nephews. Jim is predeceased by his parents, his brother Edred Childs Benton, III, sister-in-law Judith Grandy Benton, aunt Anna Benton Gilham, and cousins Harry L. Gilham (Caroline) and Blanche Gates Killette (Charlie). The memorial service will be at 2 o'clock. p.m., January 25, at Peachtree Christian Church, 1580 Peachtree St. NW, Atlanta, GA 30309, with visitation beginning at 12:30 o'clock in Stew Wood Hall. Interment will follow the service at Arlington Memorial Park. Memorial gifts maybe sent to the Heritage Fund of Peachtree Christian Church or the Alzheimer’s Association, 41 Perimeter Center East, Atlanta, GA 30346. The service will be conducted by Dr. Barry McCarty, Rev. Bob Tyler and Rev. Jim Bell.
