Frank Garner passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 with his loving and devoted wife, Barbara Porter Garner at his side. Frank Garner was born in Bennettsville, S.C. on June 6, 1928 the son of Rev. and Mrs. James Samuel Garner. He was an Eagle Scout. Frank had a great love of education. After graduation from Plant City High School in 1945, he attended Presbyterian College and graduated with a Bachelors degree in Economics and English. He served in the United States Army from 1949-1953 in the infantry and finance corps. Frank continued his education, acquiring a Masters degree in Accounting and a JD from the University of South Carolina. He later earned a PHD in accounting from Georgia State University. Frank worked as a CPA for Haskins and Sells for many years but the draw of education brought him back to academics. He taught accounting, tax and business law at Georgia State University, Emory University and Kennesaw State University. He was chosen “Accounting Educator of the Year” by the Georgia Society of CPAs in 1985. He was a member of many Professional and Honorary societies including Beta Alpha Psi, Phi Kappa Phi and Blue Key. Frank was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Atlanta where he served as a Deacon and Elder. He later was an active member of the Big Canoe Chapel where he was a member of the Board of Trustees. He also served as the President of the Big Canoe HOA. He was active in the Big Canoe community serving on many committees through the years. Frank loved to travel. He and Bobbie travelled the seven continents with Friendship Force as well as on their own. His family will remember him as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, professor and musician. Frank is preceded in death by his son, Richard Garner and daughter, Barbara Garner. Frank is survived by his wife, Barbara; their son Steve Garner and his three children and two grandchildren; daughter Jane Ann Jarvis, her husband Chuck Jarvis, their three children and three grandchildren; and daughter Allison Rollins, her husband Chet Rollins and their four children. Graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 19th, 11:00am at Arlington Memorial Park. The memorial service will follow at 2:30pm at the Big Canoe chapel. Reception following.
