Mr. E. Grey Edmonds (69) of Marietta, Georgia, passed away July 1, 2015, after a brief illness. Born in Laurel Fork, Virginia, Grey graduated from Floyd County High School in Floyd, VA, in 1964 and then joined the U.S. Air Force. He served honorably and with distinction in Vietnam in 1968-69, then returned home to finish his education at Virginia Polytechnic Institute. Grey enjoyed a career in the telecommunications industry before retiring in 2011 as a distributor’s representative of Ford Motorcraft.
Grey is survived by his wife of 34 years, Mary Bruce (Chandler) Edmonds of Marietta, sisters Linda Walters of Riner, VA, Janice Hill of Radford, VA, Joyce Edmonds and Judy Scott of Christiansburg, VA, brother Donald Edmonds of Riner, VA, five nieces and six nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Ruby Edmonds of Christiansburg, Virginia.
Grey Edmonds was a man of many interests. He had a lifelong enthusiasm for all types of motor vehicles, and over the years owned several motorcycles and exotic and domestic sports cars. He appreciated many varieties of music but especially playing bluegrass – a talent he inherited from his father who was a professional bluegrass musician in his early years. His service in the Air Force afforded Grey an opportunity to travel and through the subsequent years he and Mary Bruce thoroughly enjoyed exploring new places both at home and abroad. Grey was a member of The American Legion Horace Orr Post #29 and actively supported our service personnel.
Light-hearted and gregarious, Grey was much loved and is sorely missed by his family and all who knew him. A celebration of Grey’s life is planned for August 1st. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to your local library or animal shelter, or to any of the many organizations supporting our veterans.
