Dian was born on November 30, 1942, in Sacramento, California, to Dale and Cordia Harris. She married her high school sweetheart, Bill Schilling, on June 10, 1962. Together, they moved from Sacramento to Atlanta in 1978, building a life centered around family, friends, and community. Known for her warm smile and generous heart, Dian devoted herself to her three children, many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, creating countless traditions and memories that her family will cherish forever.
Dian loved to travel with her husband and friends, exploring new places. She was an avid tennis and bridge player and especially loved gathering with her family. She treasured time with her grandchildren, loved taking them shopping, and especially loved finding the perfect Christmas gifts to make them feel seen and loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Gene Harris.
Dian is survived by her beloved husband, Bill Schilling; children, Steve Schilling (Julie), Carol Smith (Greg), and Debbie Emery (Mark); grandchildren, Aaron Smith, Preston Emery (Anastasia), Daniel Emery, Sarah Veach (Judson), Megan Cortjens (Alex), Stacie Emery, Audrey Turner (Sean), Courtney Schilling, and Kelsey Schilling; and her 6 1/2 great-grandchildren: Lincoln, Eli, Yianni, Willie, Sophie, Mark, and baby Emery, due in February.
Visitation will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at H.M. Patterson & Son, followed by a service at 1:00 PM to celebrate her life. (4550 Peachtree Road NE, Atlanta, GA 30319.) Funeral arrangements are handled by H.M. Patterson & Son - Oglethorpe Hill.
