Susan Boyd Hodgson peacefully passed away on July 18, 2024. She was born Susan Lowry Boyd on March 17, 1949 in Atlanta, Georgia. Daughter of Gene and Sue Boyd, Susan grew up with her brother, Jimmy Boyd in Brookwood Hills and attended The Lovett School. She graduated from the University of Georgia, where she was a proud member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. In 1972, Susan married the love of her life, Paul (Peter) Hodgson, Jr. and they made their home in Athens, Georgia.
Susan was a devout member of St. Stephen’s Anglican Catholic Church and was also a member of the Junior Ladies Garden Club, The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America, and The Junior League of Athens. Susan volunteered at Emmanuel Episcopal Church Thrift House, was part of the Rabun Gap Guild, and supported the Boys & Girls Club of Athens. She loved spending time with her friends and playing in several Bridge groups. One of her greatest joys, and what she was known for, were her daily long walks throughout the Five Points area.
Susan and Peter found great joy in traveling and exploring destinations across the U.S. and Europe. They loved to escape together to Crescent Beach, Florida, where she would relax. Susan was a lifetime supporter of the UGA Football Team and enjoyed attending home games or cheering on the Dawgs from home.
Susan’s love and support for her family was steadfast. She loved having her family together where she could cook and dote on her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Peter; son, Paul McCullough Hodgson and wife, Jenny of Athens, Georgia; and son, Alan Boyd Hodgson and wife, Lindsay of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; grandchildren: Lowry, Ben, Margaret, William, Elizabeth (Betsy), and Claire.
