Robert was born to the late Paul and Marguerite Brooks Kehr in Hanover, PA. He attended school in Littlestown, PA, and studied at the Program and Business Institute in Philadelphia, PA and at Penn State University before joining the United States Army, where he served for 9 years as a tank commander and as a member of the military police. After retiring from the Army, he lived in York County, PA for 8 years. Robert lived in Daphne, Alabama for 22 years. While in Daphne, Robert served Vice Chairman of the Daphne Utilities Board from 1997-2003 and as District C Council Member from 2000-2004. He moved to Bishop, Georgia 18 years ago. An avid motorcycle rider, Robert was a member of the Harley Owners’ Group of Athens and enjoyed his motorcycle trips across the country. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.
Robert is survived by his wife of 45 years, Janet B. Kehr, of Bishop; children, Robert Kehr, Jr. and his wife, Inna, of North Port, FL; Lisa Shockney of Bishop; Tammy Schultz of North Port, FL and brother, Richard “Dick” Kehr and his wife, Julie of Hanover, PA; sisters-in-law, Barbara Fuhrman of Hanover, PA and Wanda Billet Fidler and her husband, Roger of Lutz, FL; and brother-in-law, Gary Billet of York, PA; grandchildren, Zondra Schultz and Aiden Kehr both of North Port, FL; Nathan Shockney and his wife, Marisol of Danielsville and Ryan Shockney of Bishop; great granddaughter, Charlie Rae Cowart of Danielsville; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, his brother, Harry “Buzz” Fuhrman and sisters, Janet Kehr and Darlene Richards; and son-in-law, Randy Shockney, preceded Robert in death.
A gathering of family and friends will be held 5:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday, March 1, 2023 in Bernstein Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held 10:00 AM Thursday, March 2, 2023 in the Chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home with Pastor Tony Vismor officiating.
Burial will follow in Georgia National Cemetery, 1080 Scott Hudgens Drive, Canton, GA 30114 at 2:30 PM Thursday, March 2, 2023 with military honors.
