A native Athenian, Bobby was the son of the late Robert W. Hunt, Sr. and L.E. Shiflet Hunt. He was the second-generation owner of Bob Hunt Machine Company, Inc. Highly respected by his employees, he was an astute businessman with a strong work ethic who ran his company with integrity.
He was a 1959 graduate of Athens High School. After graduation, Bobby proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from July 1959 to April 1963. During that time he was a seagoing Marine who served in the Admiral's quarters aboard the USS Lake Champlain. Afterwards, he returned to Athens to join his father in the company business. In 1964 he married Nancy Jo Patman, the love of his life. They were married for 59 years.
Bobby was a devoted member of Beech Haven Baptist Church since 1965 and a faithful member of the Glory Sunday School Class. He was a dedicated member of the YMCA Thursday morning bible study. He was a member of the Athens Country Club, the Athens Elks Lodge, the Classic City Cultural Foundation, and the Athens Cornerstone Society. He earned his pilot's license at Athens Ben Epps Airport and enjoyed flying. As a member of the Athens Radio Controlled Aircraft Club, he enjoyed building and flying his own model airplanes with his friends. Bobby was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing, snow skiing, and biking. He and Nancy, as well as their children, took many trips together in his lifetime. He loved all sports, especially the Georgia Bulldogs. His absence will impact the lives of many who will always remember his sweet smile and generosity.
Mr. Hunt was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Patricia Anne Page, a brother in-law and best friend, David Patman, and a daughter-in-law, Trish Rubke. Bobby is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Jo Patman Hunt. He is also survived by his daughter, Cami M. Hunt, his son, Wesley K. Hunt (Phyllis), and his four loving grandchildren: Baxter (Evie), Andrew, Gavin, and Bryce. He was a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews and a wonderful cousin to many.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at the Bernstein Funeral Home Chapel, located at 3195 Atlanta Highway, Athens, Georgia 30606, followed by an interment at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery, Atlanta Highway.
The family will receive visitors from 12:00-2:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the Bernstein Funeral Home. The Reverend Dr. Stewart Simms, along with Pastor John Walker will officiate the service.
In lieu of flowers, Bobby requested that memorial donations be made to Beech Haven Baptist Church, located at 2390 West Broad Street, Athens, GA, 30606 or online at beechhaven.org.
