Born in Chattanooga, TN on February 4, 1930, Mr. Morgan was a son of the late Horace McCall Morgan and Mary Burger Morgan. He was a veteran of the United States Army 82nd Airborne Division and was honorably discharged from the Tennessee National Guard after five years. After graduating from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, he went to work for Burlington Industries in Rossville, GA. He later worked as an industrial engineer for DuPont Industries in Chattanooga, Seaford, DE and Athens. He had been a member of the Kiwanis Club for 45 years having served as secretary and treasurer and received the Hixson Award for service. He volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, served on the state committee for AARP, and chaired the Athens Twilight Criterium Bike Race for several years. He was also a member of Athens First United Methodist Church where he served as a trustee and on the building committee.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Nancy French Morgan of Athens; children, Donna Morgan and her husband Tom Esquibel of Athens and Bobby Morgan of Denver, CO; a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Friday, March 4, at 11:00 a.m., in the chapel at Athens First United Methodist Church, with Revs. Chuck Hodges and Martha Aenchbacher officiating.
