Mary “Estelle” Parker Mangum of Gulf Breeze, FL, formerly of Athens, GA, passed away on October 17, 2022 at the age of 91. She was born on October 9, 1931 in Athens, GA to Susie A. and William D. Parker, Sr. She graduated from University High School in 1949 and married Garland Jarrett Mangum, Jr. on April 7, 1950. They were married 66 years before his death in 2017. She then relocated to Gulf Breeze, FL to be close to her daughter and her family. She resided at Beehive Homes of Gulf Breeze from 2017 until her death.
Estelle worked most of her career at General Time Corporation, a division of Westclock and retired as a department supervisor in 1996. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her family and was always the first one to volunteer to help someone in need. Estelle was a charter member of Oconee Heights Baptist Church where she was active in the Cradle Roll department, Sunday school, church choir, and the church quartet. She was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan and loved tailgating at both home and away games with her brother and sister-in-law. She loved gardening, woodworking, fishing and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Estelle was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her siblings, William D. Parker, Jr., Edith Parker Russell, Harriette Parker Harris, nephews, Wesley Bryant Parker and Alan Kyle Parker all of Athens, GA; and great-grandson, Joshua Jarrett Howell of Austin, TX.
She is survived by her only child, her daughter, Nancy M. Duce and her son-in-law, Dale E. Duce of Gulf Breeze, FL; grandson, Adam D. Duce (Bonnie) of Pensacola, FL; granddaughter, Allyson D. Howell (Brice) of Austin TX; great-granddaughters, Olivia Belle Duce and Ellady “Ellie” June Duce of Pensacola, FL. She is also survived by her brother, Elbert T. Parker (Gwen); extended family, Shannon Purvis (Chad) and McCall Parker, Amanda Parker and Maylin Parker all of Athens. Included also is her niece, Susan Russell Mahaffey; nephew, Bill Parker (Barbara) of Athens and nephew, Tom Parker (Sandra) of Rayle, GA and many great-nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved very much.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 23, 2022 at Bernstein Funeral Home in Athens, Georgia. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 AM and a Celebration of Life will follow in the Chapel at 12:00 PM with the Reverend Rob Bailey officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Faith Chapel Funeral Home South in Pensacola, especially Dock Boyd and Bobby Payne for the love and dignity that they showed to mom with her transport to her final resting place. The family would also like to express their deepest appreciation to Felicia, Holly, Carissa, Kenisha, Lexie, Caitlyn and Mario and mom’s other caregivers at Beehive Homes of Gulf Breeze for loving her so well and showering her with kisses and snuggles.
