Mrs. Horne was born December 25, 1928 in Atlanta, Georgia to Thomas and Louise Newton McDaniel. She married James D. Horne September 20, 1949 and together they raised two sons while living in Elberton. They moved to Athens in 1974 and Mr. Horne passed away in 1994. She married Clarence Montgomery in 1997 and they remained in Athens until both were stricken with Alzheimer’s in 2007. She resided at Arbor Terrace Assisted Living Facility in Asheville, NC close to her son, Jerry until moving with him to Kingsport, TN in December 2011. There she was loved and cherished by Jerry and Holly De Atley every moment until her passing.
Survivors include her sons, Pastor James D. Horne, Jr. and his wife, Susie of Mombasa, Kenya and Jerrel Arnold Horne of Kingsport, TN; three grandchildren, Jason Horne of Athens, Cheryl Dillon and her husband, Chris of Asheville, NC, and Rachel Peterson and her husband, Brett of South Africa, and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11AM Wednesday, June 6th in the chapel at Bernstein Funeral Home with her sons officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park, where her body will be laid to rest beside her husband, James D. Horne, Sr. The family will receive friends from 6-8PM Tuesday, June 5th at Bernstein.
