Juliette Bambi McDaniel left this world lassoed to Jesus on Tuesday, July 19, 2022. She was predeceased by her grandparents Joan Revels and Joseph B. Goodie as well as her uncles James Kitchens and Joseph F. Goodie and her 14 year old labradoodle, Jody, who was waiting for her at the rainbow bridge.
Bambi began her journey in 1968 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. Over the years she lived in Tallahassee, San Antonio and Atlanta before finding her “place” in Athens, Georgia. She made her First Communion at Blessed Sacrament in Tallahassee and continued her Catholic journey culminating in her marriage at the Catholic Center in Athens. She was the original “runaway bride” having broken three engagements before finally tying the knot. Bambi graduated from the University of Georgia, where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority, and earned a degree in Hotel/Restaurant management. She went on to work for over twenty years as a flight attendant at Delta Airlines. She loved calling her grandmother, Joan, to discuss her day as she drove home after a trip.
Many of you will remember her as the smiling helpful person at the service desk or in the pharmacy at the Publix in Watkinsville where she had a second career. She loved the airline travel and opportunities but was so happy to have the last three years not driving 316 and being home to raise her daughter. She was a gourmet cook, less than stellar housekeeper and always ready to make any gathering a party. She loved the B-52s so don’t be surprised to hear Love Shack blasting at her wake.
Left behind to always cherish her memory are her much loved daughter, Shelby Joan McDaniel, and her husband Todd McDaniel of Athens. She is also survived by her parents Mary Louise and Daniel McRae of Dublin, Georgia; her “daddy” who named her Juliette, James G. (Nell) Shepherd of Tallahassee; her grandmother Sharon Goodie, Las Vegas; and her mother-in-law Chip McDaniel of Athens. She will be missed by her aunts Joan Sharman, Crawfordville, FL; Jill Bell, Abbeville, AL; Gloria Ann Goodie, Daphne, AL; Kelly Jo (Keith) Hare, Las Vegas; and Joette (John) Roan, Las Vegas. They loved giving her unsolicited advice. With five aunts, how could she escape? The bonus with them in Las Vegas or the Gulf coast there was always a place to party.
Special cousins will continue praying including Heidi (Stan) Harris, Powder Springs, GA, who we used to pay to clean Bambi’s room; April Steingrebe, San Diego; Adrian Hall, Crawfordville, FL; Joseph “ET” Goodie, Daphne, AL; and Taylor Goodie, Daphne, AL. She will also be remembered by her very special niece Kelly Danice Ruesch of Las Vegas.
A funeral mass will be held Saturday, July 23, at 11:00 a.m., at The Catholic Center at the University of Georgia, 1344 S. Lumpkin St., Athens, GA 30605.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the mass in the Parish Hall.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 958 Epps Bridge Parkway, Athens, GA 30606.
Bernstein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
