A native of Athens, GA, Hazel was born and raised in Oglethorpe County. She worked for many years at the University of Georgia in a variety of departments as a Senior Secretary. She retired in the early 90's to spend time with her husband and pets. Hazel was an avid lover of nature; plants and animals.
Throughout her lifetime she has cared for and loved hundreds of dogs, cats, and other animals. She enjoyed sewing and made many outfits for her children in their younger years, and began quilting in her later years. She was a longtime member of and active supporter of Prospect United Methodist Church, Athens, since 1965.
She is survived by her children, Kay Landers and Mike Landers, and brother, Jimmy Shedd, all of Athens. Additional survivors include sister-in-law, Martha Rogers Shedd and two nephews, Clint Shedd and Clay Shedd. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hal Landers and brother, Glenn Shedd. The family will receive friends at Bernstein Funeral Home on Wednesday evening, August 12th from 6-8PM. Interment will be private.
