Mrs. LaBoon graduated from the University of Georgia, where she was a proud Alpha Delta Pi Sorority member and secretary of the Panhellenic Council. In 1959, she married the love of her life, James L. LaBoon, Jr., and moved to Athens.
An avid member of the First Presbyterian Church of Athens, Glenda served on the Flower and Congregational Care committees. She served on the board of the Athens-Clarke County Library and the Advisory Board for the Botanical Garden of Georgia. Additionally, Glenda was a member and president of the Wednesday Study Club, Heritage Garden Club, Athens Junior League, Friends of the Botanical Garden, and the Athens Symphony Guild.
Glenda was a woman of many interests. She found joy in her Opera Group and the Wednesday Book Club and was an avid Bridge player, participating in many different groups. Due to her social involvement, she had an extensive friend group, and doing things for and with her friends gave her great joy. However, her greatest joy was having her family's feet under the table in Good Hope, Georgia, at the Farm. The organizer, cook, and shining light of the family, she was the perfect hostess, a loving mother and grandmother, and a doting wife. Her unwavering love and support for her husband were unmatched, often called by him “his secret weapon.” Together, they traveled the world, creating many lasting memories.
Glenda's love for her family was steadfast. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, James L. LaBoon Jr.; daughter Elizabeth (Libby) Wetherington of Peachtree City, GA; and son James L. LaBoon III and wife Denise of Athens, GA; grandchildren Chas Campbell, Caroline LaBoon Underwood (Evan), Ansley Wetherington, Reynolds Wetherington, Emily LaBoon; and great-grandson Jackson Campbell; brother Robert G. Edge and wife Betty of Atlanta; and nieces Elizabeth Edge and Phoebe Edge; and special family friend Naomi Brooks.
A celebration of life will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Athens, 185 W. Hancock Avenue, Athens, GA 30601, on Monday, July 1, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive visitors following the service in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Athens, Athens Y Camps, and Athens Academy.
