She was preceded in death by her father, Neil Ellis White and her mother, Effie (Green) White and her brother, Neil Ellis White, Jr.
Ms. White is survived by her sisters, Judy (Tom) Johnson of Wilmington, IL, Carolyn (John Taylor) Davis of Pipe Creek, TX and Barbara (Brian) Strickland of Huntsville, AL; her daughter, Susan Satterwhite-Williams of Athens, GA; her two grandchildren, Sabrina D. Rily Booker and Neil Hilton Satterwhite-Williams and Susan's father, Hilton Dwight Satterwhite Jr., also of Athens GA. She is also survived by 9 nieces and nephews, many cousins, in-laws and friends.
Deborah graduated from Wilmington High School Class of 1965, attended Wesleyan and Northern Illinois University graduating with a BA in Education. Deborah also graduated from The University of Georgia with a Masters of Education in 1985 and also a Specialist of Education degree in 1990. She was an accomplished flutist and studied with Don Peck of the Chicago symphony as well as played with the Chicago symphony at Ravenna.
Ms. White (Satterwhite) taught in Huntsville, AL, Angleton, TX, Panama City, FL, Hahira, GA, and spent the majority of her teaching years in Watkinsville, GA at both the Oconee County Intermediate School and Oconee County Primary School. Deborah was a master educator and teacher. Many of her students have gone on to be educators themselves. She was highly regarded, loved, and adored by her students and colleagues.
A memorial service will be held Monday, May 16 at 10 a.m. at New Covenant Worship Center in Athens, GA.
