Charles C. Wooten Jr. passed away on April 30, 2023. He was born on July 26, 1948 in Williamson, Mingo County, W.Va. to Charles C. Wooten Sr. and Mildred Napier Wooten. He is a distinguished alumni of Williamson High School, where was the senior class football captain, baseball co-captain, and student body president. Charles graduated from West Liberty College, and moved to Europe shortly thereafter, settling in Germany. He moved to Athens in 1976 to complete a master's degree in German linguistics. After finishing his master's degree at UGA he taught German at Clarke Central High School. He was the boys' soccer coach at CCHS, winning a state championship in 1985. He retired from Clarke Central in 2006 and taught German at Gainesville College (now North Georgia College) until May 2020.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Hildegard Wooten. In addition he is survived by his son, John Wooten and his wife, Sara, their children John and Anna Wooten, and Henry, Lucy, and Wren Wise, as well as his son, Brian Wooten and his partner, Melanie Pinson.
There will be a private family graveside service.
