William "Joe" Joseph Smith

Joe was born February 23, 1935, in Franklin County, Alabama to Walter and Daisy Murphy Smith.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Anita Smith, six brothers Clyde, Hommer, James, Raymond, Mack Smith; two sisters Lois and Christine; and his grandson Derrick Smith.

Survivors include his son Wesley Joe Smith (Shelia); brother Johnnie Martin (Mae); granddaughter Beverly Young; two great-grandsons Anthony Young and Harley Young; nephews Michael, Kevin (Crystal), and Daniel; as well as several friends that were his extended family.

Joe had multiple experiences throughout his life. He served four years in the Army in which he served in the military police, he also worked doing upholstery on furniture, also working as a security guard at Goodyear Tire. He loved to garden and could often be found toiling in the yard. He lost his beloved dog, Spunky, a few months.

Pallbearers will be David Chittam, Alton Nix, Larry Chittam, Anthony Young, Harley Young and Brad Chittam.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 7th, 2024, at McConnell Funeral Home from 11:30-12:45 pm. A graveside service will follow in his honor on Thursday, November 7th, 2024, at 1pm at Limestone Memorial Gardens.
