The funeral for Roger Emery Ziegler, 71, of Athens, who passed from this earth on Sunday, May 18, 2014, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church on Alabama 99 in Athens with Dr. Juaken Dumas officiating and McConnell's Funeral Home directing.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery with full military honors.
Mr. Ziegler was born Oct. 16, 1942, in Ocala, Fla., to the late Albert William Ziegler and Bessie Mae Ziegler. He was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Athens since 1995. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, in which he served two tours in the Special Forces as a Green Beret. He graduated from Central Florida Community College with a degree in Nuclear Health Physics. Mr. Ziegler loved people, his church and his family.
He is preceded in death by two brothers, James Leverette Ziegler and Robert Albert Ziegler, and two sisters, Marvine Bernelle Ketchum and Doris Melba Brown.
Mr. Ziegler is survived by the love of his life, Judith Elaine Ziegler; his beloved daughter, Traci Elaine Ziegler; his brother, Clarence William Ziegler; his adopted son and daughter, Steve and Holly Smith; grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
