Martha Ann Tubbs Kitchens, 90, of Decatur, died on June 8, 2019 at Decatur Health Care and Rehabilitation. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Tanner United Methodist Church, with Rev. Ralph Johnson, Rev. W.G. Henry and Rev. Jason Greene officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service. McConnell Funeral Home will handle the arrangements.
Mrs. Kitchens was born September 29, 1928 in Birmingham, Alabama, to Floyd K. Tubbs and Kathrine Eaton Tubbs. She graduated from Walker County High School in Jasper, Alabama in 1947. She was employed as a lab technician at Walker Hospital in Jasper, at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence, Lloyd Nolan Hospital in Birmingham, Pineview Hospital in Hartselle, and retired from Dr. Garrold Nungester's office in Decatur in 1992.
She joined the United Methodist Church in 1976 and was past president of her Sunday School class at Austinville United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William F. Kitchens, parents, her stepfather, Major Handley, and sisters Carolyn Tubbs Rylee and Shirley Tubbs Eady.
Mrs. Kitchens is survived by her daughters Allyson (David) Kitchens Mainor, of Milledgeville, Georgia, and Amy (Michael) Kitchens Pollick of Decatur; nephews Danny (Suzanne) Evans of Trussville and Reginald (Sandra) Eady of Birmingham; and her nieces, Kathy (James) Taylor of Adger, Rebecca (Ron) Tubbs of Hazel Green, and Olivia (Rick) Rigsby of Mandeville, La. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Kitchens of Birmingham, brother-and sister-in-law John and Sue Kitchens of Boaz, and brother-and sister-in-law Mike and Sarah Lindsay of Tanner.
Interment will be at a private service at Antioch Cemetery in Oneonta.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tanner UMC, the American Diabetes Association, or to the United Methodist Council on Relief.
