Julia Duncan Hayden Scherff, 85, of Athens, Alabama, passed away on October 23, 2017. “M” was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was born in Athens, Alabama on November 23, 1931. She attended Huntingdon College and Auburn University, where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. Julia was a homemaker and worked for many years alongside her husband and father at Athens Nursery. She attended St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church. She volunteered at Hospice of Limestone County for many years, was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and was a charter member of The Athena League. She loved taking care of her dog, Gabby, and baking German chocolate cakes for her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening and playing bridge with her lifelong friends.
Julia was preceded in death by her husband, Al Scherff, Jr., her parents, Kate and Claude Hayden, and her brother, Claude Hayden, Jr. She is remembered with love by her children, Al Scherff, III and wife Beth, John Scherff and wife Kim, and Lisa Scherff; her grandchildren, Lauren Scherff Globetti and husband Joey, Caroline Scherff Medlen and husband Colby, Max Scherff and wife Ellen, Lucy Scherff, and Peter Scherff; and one great-grandchild, Charlie Globetti.
Visitation will be held at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church on Friday, October 27, 2017, at 11:00am. The service will follow at 12:00pm.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Limestone County, The Ark animal shelter, and The Alzheimer’s Association.
