He was born February 14, 1935 in Jefferson County to Archie D. and Para T. Hooper.
The funeral service will be Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 11 a.m. at McConnell Memorial Chapel with Brother Joe Teal and Brother Larry Hicks officiating. The burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home.
Mr. Hooper was a biologist for the State of Alabama’s Conservation Department (Fisheries Division). He was a member of First Baptist Church and Limestone Gideons-East Camp. He was a veteran of the Korean War, and a graduate of Auburn University. His hobbies were camping, fishing, hunting, and enjoying grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Alma Knight Hooper; one son, Gerald Robert Hooper, Jr. and wife Jennifer G. Hooper; one sister, Betty H. Lee and husband Harry Lee; three grandchildren, Gerald R. Hooper III “Jay”, Molly A. Hooper, and Benjamin D. Hooper; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Archie D. Hooper, Jr.
Pallbearers will be the Athens Limestone County Gideons.
Memorials may be made to Gideons, American Cancer Society, Diabetes Association, or First Baptist Church of Athens, AL.
