Edward Lavine Nelson, age 83 of Madison, Alabama, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, February 25, 2017. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him, and ultimately gave him peace.
Lavine was born in Kansas AL, on Dec 2, 1933. Although he was a native of Alabama, he also spent time in Japan, during his military service in the US Air Force, and later a brief stint in Monroe, Louisiana. And after being set up on a blind date, Lavine married his sweetheart Barbara Ann Smith (Nelson). The two were happily married for 58 years and have three children, five grandchildren, two step grandchildren and one step great grandchild. Lavine treasured time with his family including his incredible church family at Greenbrier Baptist Church. He worked for and retired from the US Government and was an avid music lover. He enjoyed spending some of his last days and weeks thrift shopping for unique antique and classic vinyl records to add to the hundreds in his collection that included everything from big bands, crooners, easy listening and the Carpenters.
Left to honor Lavine and remember his love are his three daughters: Melanie Musick and her husband Glen, Tammy Ivey and her husband Mike and Deborah Hitchcock and her husband Barry; five grandchildren: Haley Ivey, Kelsey Musick, Courtney Musick, Devin Usleton and Sidnie Hitchcock; two step grandchildren: Jamie Hitchcock and wife Janet, and Neisha Chadwick and her husband Tristan; one step great grandchild: Gracie Hitchccock; one Sister: Carolyn Herron and her husband Morrace.
Lavine was proceeded in death by his loving wife Barbara, and his brothers, Harold and Billy Ray Nelson.
He will be remembered as a bright shinning light in his community and at his church, Greenbrier Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years.
Lavine's life celebration will be held on Thursday, March 2nd, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Greenbrier Baptist Church. Visitation will be held on Wednesday at McConnell Funeral Home in Athens, Alabama.
