Therese Marie Baker

Marie Therese (Terry) Baker, of Assiniboia, SK, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2012, after a brief battle with cancer.

Terry was born November 1, 1929, in Willow Bunch, SK, the ninth and final child born to Rene and Berthe Leduc. She grew up on the family farm south east of Assiniboia, and attended the country school at Montcalm. The family moved to Assiniboia where she took Grade 11 and 12, graduating in 1948. Terry worked in Edmonton and Regina and returned to Assiniboia in the mid 50’s to work for Fred Jones Agency. She married Ed Baker in 1967, and they took up residence on a farm just south of Willows. Ed and Terry lived on the farm for 27 years. In 1989, Terry began working at Assiniboia 55 Club as the Secretary-treasurer. She continued to work there for 15 years, retiring from the position in July 2004. Ed and Terry sold the farm and moved to Assiniboia in 1995, and in 1998, Ed passed away. Terry remained in her home until August 2011, when she moved to an apartment at East Side Court.

Since moving off the farm, Terry greatly enjoyed life in town and participated in many activities to keep herself busy. Terry enjoyed getting together often with friends to play cards, and was often seen chauffeuring ladies to church and around town. She spent a considerable amount of time with her cousin and friend Jeanne Leduc. Terry had enjoyed bowling throughout different times in her life, and had been active in the Assiniboia Leagues for the past 30 years. She continued to bowl until the end of March this year. Many of her friends and family will remember her sense of humour and how she always tried to make people laugh.

Predeceased by her husband Edward and infant son Paul, her eight brothers and sisters, Terry is survived by her three children: Marie (Sven) Magnuson of Assiniboia, David (Penny) of Melfort, and Rita (Devin) Rushton of Regina; 6 grandchildren: Liz and Nick Magnuson, Jessica and Jonathan Baker, and Paige and Maya Rushton, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Prayer Service was held Tuesday evening, May 15, 2012 and Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, May 16, 2012. Both services held at St. George’s Roman Catholic Church, Assiniboia. Tribute was given by her niece, Dorothy Piché. A Guard of Honor was formed by the Catholic Women’s League. Pallbearers were: Kim Leduc, Len Schrenk, Alan Aubert, Charlie Piché, Mitch Piché, and Joedy Piché. Music Ministry was led by organist Gail Delorme and St. George’s Parish Choir. Interment in Mount Hope Cemetery, Assiniboia, SK. Masses may be said or donations in Memory of Terry may be made to the St. Benedict’s Monastery or Kinsmen Telemiracle.
