It is with great sadness that we announce our mother Shirley Mayes passed away Sunday, May 21, 2023. She was born September 22, 1939 on the family farm in the Weybridge district south east of Assiniboia, SK, and lived there with her parents and two younger siblings. She married John on March 17, 1956. They lived on the home farm. In 1975, they built a new home in Assiniboia and continued to farm. For fifteen years, they stippled and painted for other people. Shirley enjoyed gardening, canning, baking, and flowers. She was involved with Royal Purple and becoming the “Honoured Royal Lady” for many years. She had many friendships and loved get togethers playing cards. She was an excellent cook and many relished her meals. She enjoyed going for coffee with her friends and brother, Gerry. As her health failed, she moved into Westside Court, followed by Prairie Villa and eventually at Long-term care. She enjoyed her puzzles, bingo, and going for coffee there. She was predeceased by her parents Robert and Annie Vail, husband John, sons Garry, Gerald, Ken and Bryan, grandchildren Leanne and Travis, brothers Don and Gerald. She is survived by her sons Stan (Linda), Wes (Jo-Anne), grandchildren, Christopher, Jaden, Carter and Rayla, sister-in-law Marg Vail, many nieces, nephews, good friends and cousins. Funeral service was held at Ross Funeral Chapel, Saturday, May 27, 2023 at 1:00 pm with Anette Pryce presiding. Tribute presented by niece, Marilyn Mayes-Wilson. Pallbearers were Glenn Hawkins, Norm Nordgulen, Lyle Wilson, Daryl Mayes, Carter Mayes and Rob Magnuson. Interment at Mount Hope Cemetery, Assiniboia, SK. Donations in memory of Shirley may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, or to the charity of choice.
