Our loving Mother passed away on November 22, 2012 at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina, Saskatchewan after a courageous battle with cancer.
Millie was born on September 23, 1933 on the family farm close to Assiniboia, Saskatchewan to James and Josephine Hewitt. Millie grew up on the family farm. She attended Lethburn School near Assiniboia, and following graduation she completed a secretarial course. Millie worked at a variety of jobs until she married and became a full time wife and mother. Millie had a wonderful 20 year career at Extendicare in Moose Jaw were she retired in 1998. She cherished the residents and formed some lasting friendships. Millie married Gordon Olson on December 14, 1955 in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan. They were happily married for 20 years. She was a great mom taking the kids to skating, Brownies, Cubs, and swimming. She was also a member of Moose Jaw Legion Ladies Auxiliary were she had many dear friends. She enjoyed baking, sewing, knitting and visiting with friends and family.
Millie is survived by her two children; Douglas Olson (Ehm) of Fort McMurray, AB and Karen Olson (Craig) of Regina, SK; her grandchildren Chrissy Searle (Jared) of Edmonton, AB and Tanner Olson of Edmonton, AB; sister-in-law Beatrice Hewitt of Mossbank, SK, brothers-in-law Jim Mitchell of Moose Jaw and Norman Olson of Assiniboia, SK, as well as several step- grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Millie was predeceased by her parents James and Josephine Hewitt, her husband Gordon, two sisters Helen Mitchell and Alice Livingstone and three brothers Lawrence Hewitt, Donald Hewitt and Bobby Hewitt.
A Celebration of Millie’s life was held at Ross Funeral Chapel, Assiniboia, SK on Wednesday, November 28th, 2012. Tribute was given by Granddaughter, Chrissy Searle, as well as Grandson, Tanner Olson sang “Skys of Blue”, which he wrote for his Grandma Millie. Urn Bearer was also grandson, Tanner. Interment followed at Mount Hope Cemetery, Assiniboia, SK. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Regina Palliative Care Inc (RPCI) and/or Greystone Bereavement Centre.
