Peacefully on November 4, 2023, with his family by his side, Edward Richard Brandt passed away at age 92. He is predeceased by his parents, Richard and Adele (nee Koch) Brandt, parents-in-law Frank and Maria (nee Carswell) Thompson, sister-in-law Doris Brandt, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Don and May Spark, and brother-in-law Frank Thompson. Ed will be forever cherished by his wife of 67 years, Evelyn; three daughters, Brenda Brandt & Garnet Anderson, their children Brielle (Hudson Schmidt) and Levi (Kylin Elder); Beverley & Brian Nattress, their daughters Mariah (Brandon Thomsen) and Justine; Bonnie Brandt & Trevor Benson and their daughter McKenna, his brother Art, niece Shawney (Brad) Dobbin and family, nephew Doug Brandt, niece Linda (Brad) Wiggins and family, nephews Brian (Bea) Spark and family, Don (Michelle) Thompson and family, Allan (Louise) Thompson and family, Les (Ronna) Thompson and family. Dad was a farmer; he loved the land and the animals even though both entailed hard work and dedication. He was fortunate that he was able to live on their farm with Mom right until days before his passing. Dad loved his horses and driving a team. At age 7 he was plowing fields with a 6 horse hitch that took him 5 days to plow 40 acres. Growing up Dad and Uncle Art would race on their horses with Dad winning 99% of the time. At age 90, Bonnie bought a team of horses to surprise him at Christmas. She hitched them to a sleigh and before Bonnie could even ask, Dad jumped on the sleigh and set off for a few spins around the yard! Dad and Mom could often be found at the many sporting events, dance competitions and school activities their grandchildren were participating in even when it involved travelling. He was incredibly proud of each and every accomplishment of his children, and even more so, those of his grandchildren. Dad’s dedication and devotion to Mom and her health needs was unwavering to the end. Dad was actively involved in the community and was quick to lend a hand to friends and neighbors alike, no matter what the need. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. They attended services regularly and sang in the choir until health issues prevented their attendance. He enjoyed the visits from family, especially grandchildren, and friends, either in person or the numerous and frequent phone calls. These spontaneous times when someone would “drop by for a quick visit” or “lend a hand when needed” were greatly appreciated by our family. To Uncle Art, Doug, Chris, Dexter and Michelle, a simple “Thank You” seems inadequate. This community of support helped make it possible for them to stay on the farm. This brought them joy and happiness. We thank you all. Funeral Service was held on November 13, 2023 at Messiah Lutheran Church, Assiniboia, Sk. Pastor Sarah Mowat presided, readers were Donna Fiset and Laura Gasper. Pallbearers were his grandchildren; Mariah Nattress, McKenna Brandt, Brielle Anderson, Levi Anderson, Justine Nattress and neighbor Dexter Bates. Interment at the Readlyn Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Ross Funeral Home, Assiniboia.
Our family would like to express our thanks and gratitude to everyone for their condolences, kind words of sympathy and remembrance, beautiful flowers, cards and generous gifts of food that we received during this difficult time. Your thoughtfulness is much appreciated. Special thanks to Donna and Laura for the Scripture readings; to Anette and Gary for your compassion, thoughtfulness and attention to details; it was such a wonderful idea to drive Dad to the farm one last time. Thank you to the Messiah Lutheran Church Ladies for serving the lunch and to everyone who made a memorial donation to the Moose Jaw Humane Society, your kindness and generosity is so appreciated.
