Denis Gerald Bergeron, age 75, of Invermere, BC formerly of Assiniboia, SK, passed away on Wednesday, October 4th, 2023.
Denis was born January 16th, 1948 to Edgar and Stella Bergeron. He was the first of four children followed by Ron, Judy and finally Lorianne. In 1954, Edgar and Stella moved the farmhouse into Assiniboia where Denis would begin and complete his primary and secondary education. Through a hockey scholarship, Denis attended and played hockey at the U of S where he would achieve his B.A. in Economics. During this time, he would work in the Molson Hospitality House in Regina with his hero George Reed of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
After University, for the remainder of his professional life, Denis would find himself between Invermere, Assiniboia and Saskatoon. In 1993 he would retire his title of ‘World’s Funniest Uncle’ and be crowned ‘World’s Proudest Dad’. In Assiniboia, he proudly farmed the family farm with his father and would continue to farm it after Edgar’s retirement. The farm is where many of Denis’s most treasured times were spent: farming with family, meals in the field, and Morgan asleep on his knee in the combine.
Denis would retire from farming in Assiniboia in 2015. During retirement, Denis would share his time between Invermere and Mexico where he would continue to enjoy tennis, pickle-ball and a hard-earned tequila shot.
Dad did everything big. He lived big, laughed often and loved enormously; he was one-of-a-kind. Best known for his fun-loving nature (magic tricks included) and generous heart, Dad could leave a lasting impression on anyone he met. And he did. Dad truly embraced the meaning of a life well lived and never failed to express his appreciation for the beauty that is life.
Denis is survived by daughter Morgan Bergeron & Adam Duxbury, siblings; Ron & Ali and their sons Michael, Kevin and Gregory; Judy & Cal Moneo and their children Jeff, Jessica, Curtis, Cameron, Jennifer; brother-in-law Dennis Oleniuk and daughters Stephanie and Ashley. He was predeceased by parents, Edgar (2005) and Stella (2022) Bergeron and sister Lorianne Oleniuk (2001).
Funeral Memorial Service was held Saturday, October 21st, 2023 at 2:00 pm in St. George's Roman Catholic Church, Assiniboia, SK. Interment at Mount Hope Cemetery, Assiniboia. Fellowship and lunch followed at St. George's R.C. Parish Hall.
