Bernard Hamilton Cross, 93, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2024 after a brief illness. Born in Richmond, Virginia, Bernard was the beloved son of Charles Felix Cross, Sr. and Mildred Pollard Cross. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Charles Felix Cross, Jr., and his cherished wife of fifty years, Doris Jean Archibald Cross. Bernard's legacy lives on through his three sons, Gordon (Denise), David (Sarah), and Russell; his five grandchildren, Andrew (Abi), Kristen, Matt (Allison), Virginia, and Laura; and his two great-grandchildren, Lila Rose and Walter.
Bernard attended RPI in Richmond before transferring to the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. He then attended the University of Richmond Law School, and after graduation, went on to practice law in Richmond City and Hanover County for over 50 years. He earned the respect of colleagues and clients alike for his unwavering integrity and commitment to his community.
Alongside Doris and their three sons, Bernard brought Christmas joy to generations of Richmonders through Santa's Forest Tree Farm and the Green Earth poinsettia nursery, filling homes and hospitals with festive Christmas spirit. After their retirement, Bernard and Doris embraced new adventures traveling the country in their RV van.
Bernard's sharp wit, dedication to family, and love for his community will remain a guiding presence for all who knew him. A private family service will be held to honor Bernard's life. In remembrance, donations may be made to Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Richmond, VA.
