Gene Paul Janushanis, beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Brother and Uncle peacefully passed away on July 4, 2023, at his home in Pace, Florida, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 21, 1932, at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis, MO.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Janushanis and Lillian Janushanis, as well as his cherished wife, Thelma Janushanis. He leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication to his family.
Gene is survived by his children, James (Lisa "Toni") Janushanis Deborah (Randy) Horne, both of whom he loved fiercely. His sister, Lillian Contini, shared a special bond with him throughout their lives.
Gene's memory will be cherished by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life. His grandchildren include Jennifer (Tim) Mullen of Steelville, MO, Gene Janushanis of St. Louis, MO, Matthew (Megan) Janushanis of St. Louis, MO, Nicholas (Emily) Janushanis of Fairview Heights, IL, Stacey (Justin) Gordon of Guyton, GA, Christopher Carter of Springfield, GA, and Christian Horne of Navarre, FL, Bryant (Haley) Horne of Pace, FL and Anthony (Sherry) DePersis of Pensacola FL. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Christopher Carter, Jr., Garrett, Carson, and Paxton Mullen, Jeffrey Janushanis, Cayden Moesta, Mikayla Carter, Kayden, Gabriel and Isaac Gordon, and Christian, Princeton and Flynn Horne and Ellysia DePersis
Gene was also loved by his numerous Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.
Gene proudly served his country in the US Army for 24 years, starting his career as a paratrooper as a member of the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team. His commitment and bravery earned him the respect of those who served alongside him.
Gene Paul Janushanis will forever be remembered as a dedicated family man, a proud veteran, and a pillar of strength. His love and guidance will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
Funeral services for Gene will be entrusted to the caring professionals at Heiligtag-Lang-Fendler Funeral Home, located at 1081 Jeffco Blvd, Arnold, MO 63010. A viewing will take place on July 12, 2023, from 4-8pm, allowing family and friends an opportunity to pay their respects.
A church service will be held at 11am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, located at 6020 Old Antonia Rd, Imperial, MO 63052. Gene will be laid to rest at the hallowed grounds of Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, where his contributions as a dedicated soldier will forever be remembered.
