Bill Pierce died at the age of 83, on August 16, 2014 at his home in Darrington WA, as a result of complications from cancer. He was surrounded by loved ones as he made his final journey here on earth.
William Beryl Pierce was born to Beryl and Ellen (Lundgren) Pierce in Plentywood, Montana on January 13, 1931. He attended school in Plentywood and graduated in 1951. Bill enlisted in the Montana National Guard in 1951-1957 and then became a member of the US Army in 1957 receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1958, as a Specialist Fourth Class. He was married to Marlis Crosson from 1957- 69 and together they had three children, Todd, Scott and Tami.
Bill worked most of his career as a floor layer for Allied Floors in Seattle. He became a master in the trade and his talents live on in the homes of many, even today. He retired but never stopped working in the trade. His last job was this year in March at the age of 83.
Bill loved the outdoors; fishing, hunting, camping and watching football. He bought a cabin in Darrington in the 70’s and spent much of his free time there sharing his hobbies with family and friends. He enjoyed time spent with anyone who came to visit and share the latest. It was here that he met Ann Hastings Bostic and they later married in 1992, eventually making Darrington their permanent home.
Bill was a long time member of the American Legion. He and Ann served on every level possible and contributed much time to the community. They had a great love of their friends at the Legion.
He loved his children and grandchildren and extended family. He looked forward to time spent with each of them and they loved hearing all his stories of his past and his adventures while growing up in Montana. Bill looked forward to the family camp-out held at his home each year and was disappointed that his health prevented the gathering this year. Sometimes life and distance kept him away but he treasured the moments he was able to get with each of them.
Bill was a devoted husband to his wife Ann and became her caregiver as she struggled with illness. He was truly an example of self-sacrifice as he rarely left her side.
Bill is survived by his 3 children, Todd (Karen) Pierce of Renton, WA, Scott (Jan) Pierce of Duvall, WA and Tami (Doug) Thompson of Sultan, WA. Also by 17 grandchildren, William (Kim), Chelsie (Cody), Aaron (Mandy), Holly, Jessica (Jordan), Samuel (Brianne), Benjamin, Danielle(Jared), Andrew (Cortney), Sarah (Brian), Jordan, Angela, Elaina (Daniel), Mitchel, Timothy, Joshua and Jason and 7 great-grandchildren, Mason, Mylz, Hunter, Allison, Conner, Hoyt and Chloe. He also leaves behind his sister Betty French and many nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Bill.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Beverly Barstad and Bernice Hamilton, and his loving wife Ann Pierce.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 30, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at the Darrington Community Center, 570 Sauk Ave., Darrington, WA 98241.
